Resting in Truth during our Winter Seasons of Faith + FREE Wilderness Wanderings Study

Hey friends!

Years ago, I walked out into the lonely street early in the morning, the tall buildings creating a wall around the street. The sound of the Strassenbahn echoed off the white limestone surround as my footsteps rang out - tap, tapping - speed-walking to catch the next trolley. I had to get to class after all.

I jumped into the car before the doors beeped and slammed shut, nodding to the passengers as I grabbed onto the strap hanging overhead. Everyone was so close together, but I felt worlds apart, lonely, and overlooked thousands of miles away from my family and friends.

Sometimes, we feel like a fish out of water... and we don't know why. We are in circumstances that seem good by any standards, even idyllic. But, we struggle with our purpose, our emotions, and sometimes even our faith.

These seasons are what I call Winter - or Wilderness - Seasons of Faith. These seasons are times when we struggle with doubt, loneliness, and listlessness. We may feel burnt out and a little depressed.

In these seasons, we struggle with turning our focus off of ourselves and what is happening in our hearts and minds. Because of this, we often spiral in our thoughts, repeating negativity over and over again. The spiral leads to doubt and a lack of faith. Winter Seasons can truly test - and maybe even break - our faith.

We may feel like this is something that is only a modern problem, but the Israelites struggled with it too. They had just been saved from the backbreaking, soul-crushing life of slavery, but in the wilderness, they doubted and desired to return. They idealized the past and couldn't see that their current circumstances were so much better. They struggled to trust in the promises of God.

We can look at the faithfulness of God to the Israelites and recognize that God will be faithful to us too. We must trust.

One of the best ways to build trust is to memorize examples of God's faithfulness in scripture and repeat them back during difficult times. You can see one example of a scripture from Psalm 23 in the video below.

What are some promises of God that you repeat to yourself during Winter seasons?

Here's something just for you!

This week's Friday Freebie is a PDF study guide of four lessons about Wilderness Wanderings based on my own experience with the wilderness as well as the experiences of the Israelites, David, Elijah, and Jesus.

Hey friends! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter! We are settling into the Spring Routines, including starting seedlings, planning out gardens, and picking out homeschool curriculum for next year. As we move into the Spring months, I start to get Spring fever. I am so ready for summer, including the pool, the beach, and long summer days! As the season changes, I like to take a moment to reassess my goals. I post regularly on Instagram about some of these goals, as well as ideas and...

Hey friends, and hello Spring! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. A few weeks ago, I went to a lovely women's retreat with some ladies from my church. There's something so special about leaving the distractions and busyness of life and spending some time in God's word with like-minded believers. Then, the following weekend, I went to the Great Homeschool Convention. It was a great weekend! Do you homeschool? I'd love it if you responded and let me know! It got my wheels turning for...

Hey friends! Rising costs mean rising stress, doesn't it? I was just talking with some friends about the costs of take-out meals. What used to be a $5-6 meal has bloomed into $10-12! Take that combined with growing families, and sometimes, it can feel like you are at the end of your rope. You can't seem to make the ends meet. As Christians, we have a different view of money. Money is not just something that strive to accumulate more of to buy nice things for ourselves. We don't use money to...
