First Whispers of Fall + New Podcast Episode

Newsletter for the Week of September 21st

Hello!

Even though pumpkin spice season is in full swing, it hasn't felt much like fall around here. I yearn for the days of a cozy blanket and soft knit sweater while I snuggle up on the couch with a good book. Finally, the first few whispers of fall have broken through the wide expanse of green that surrounds my home. Splashes of orange and red are just starting to appear on the trees, hints of cooler weather and cozier homes in the weeks to come.

For my son, this is a new experience. He asks "why" to nearly everything right now as his three-year-old mind tries to comprehend this big bright world around him. Why does it get cold? Why does it rain? Why do I have to sleep? Why do the brownies need to bake?

Sometimes though I find myself asking this question. Why do the leaves need to fall off, leaving the trees barren and stark as the cold descends on the land? Why do we have to go through the seasons of winter?

I once read a post that said, "Autumn shows that even change can be beautiful."

I hope that you are reveling in the beauty of change this autumn. I hope you are able to stop and notice and breathe a sigh of relief at how great our world really is.

Now, take a moment to grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit for a minute as we go through our weekly round-up of all the things happening at A More Beautiful Life Collective.

12 Life-changing Life Questions

There is a lot of noise that is constantly being thrown at us. More information exists than we could possibly learn. So, how can we declutter our minds to focus on what we actually need to learn? To focus on our true purpose? By developing our 12 life questions.

The Asterisk* – What to do when “caveats” get in the way of living your best life…

Words are powerful. They help us to tell stories and build worlds. But, in the postmodern age, words have been reduced in their meaning. We never say what we truly mean because of the risk of offending and being misunderstood. The asterisks can get in the way of our calling, and we need to make it stop.

Some Beautiful Things

  • What I'm reading: I just finished I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette Harris. Jeanette Harris, who starred in iCarly and its later spin-off, was one of the child actors that I loved growing up. Little did I know, she experienced abuse and trauma during her time in Hollywood. I've heard really good things about this book. Have you read it? You can message me on Instagram, and let me know what you think! This book was intense and eye-opening. It really makes you rethink what you know about Hollywood and child actors. I've also been reading The Midnight Library for a book club I'm a part of. It is so good and really encourages us to live with purpose in the one life that we've been given now.
  • What I'm listening to: I just finished listening to an episode of Scholé Sisters on Rewards Revisited with Jason Barney. In this episode, they discuss the negative effects of offering extrinsic motivation to your children to learn and do basic tasks. Coming from the world of education where we give candy for nearly everything, it was especially thought-provoking and convicting.
  • What I'm loving: Cooler days actually mean more time outside in the South as bugs, heat, and snakes start to disappear. I've been loving my midday picnics out on the lawn. All you need is a picnic blanket and some easy-to-carry snacks and you'll create a favorite tradition for your family!
  • Check out The Purpose Planner on Etsy! I've been working on creating a planner for home, work, school, and life. Let me know what you think! You can get 50% off with the code: HABITS.

Hey friends! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter! We are settling into the Spring Routines, including starting seedlings, planning out gardens, and picking out homeschool curriculum for next year. As we move into the Spring months, I start to get Spring fever. I am so ready for summer, including the pool, the beach, and long summer days! As the season changes, I like to take a moment to reassess my goals. I post regularly on Instagram about some of these goals, as well as ideas and...

Hey friends, and hello Spring! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. A few weeks ago, I went to a lovely women's retreat with some ladies from my church. There's something so special about leaving the distractions and busyness of life and spending some time in God's word with like-minded believers. Then, the following weekend, I went to the Great Homeschool Convention. It was a great weekend! Do you homeschool? I'd love it if you responded and let me know! It got my wheels turning for...

Hey friends! Rising costs mean rising stress, doesn't it? I was just talking with some friends about the costs of take-out meals. What used to be a $5-6 meal has bloomed into $10-12! Take that combined with growing families, and sometimes, it can feel like you are at the end of your rope. You can't seem to make the ends meet. As Christians, we have a different view of money. Money is not just something that strive to accumulate more of to buy nice things for ourselves. We don't use money to...
